Cherry, cherry veneer, Baltic birch plywood, maple, brass hardware, Osmo & shellac finishes
Designed and built as my primary project as a Furniture Intensive student at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Maine, this cherry toolbox was designed to carry my hand tools on my move to Australia. As my essential toolkit expanded, so did this toolbox. Alas, it still hasn’t made its way down under. One day to will get there!
This case piece is packed with loads of details that furniture makers like to chat about in their free time: L-tenons in the hardwood case miters, wrap-around grain on the solid cherry sides, removable chisel drawers, shop-sawn veneer on all bottoms, sliding dovetails, half-blind dovetails with a shoulder, continuous veneer on the tops, a dedicated saw pocket, invisible drawer fronts, brass hardware, interior drawer retention system, maple drawer sides and runners, and shellac and Osmo finishes.
